Monthly Writing Report for July 2024

It’s been a rough couple of weeks in the real world, so I’m going to keep this shorter than the last couple, and not because there’s less to report (although there is less to report).

  • Raw Word Count: 7203 which, considering there was only one day I didn’t do any creative work at all, is very low. But I’m still on the editing binge. As of July 31st, I moved 17 more short stories, plus 12 at flash length, to final draft status during the month, and 18 more to either 2nd or 3rd draft complete. This might have involved a lot of work for any given story, but not necessarily a big change in word count, though a couple of the 2nd drafts were things that were originally dictated and auto-transcribed. Those needed a lot of work and had larger changes.
  • A mere 6 blog posts. There might have been more if I hadn’t gotten so busy, but that’s how things worked out. I’ll try to do better for August.

Editing continues as the primary things for the next little while. August, at least. There are still 25 short stories (ranging from 1100 to 7300 words) that need to make it to final draft, then 7 novelettes (running 7.8-15.6k) and 6 novellas (17.5-25k) to see to. I’m not sure all of the longer stories are salvageable and some of them have been waiting for me to get back to them for a very long time. After that, I really need to do the final draft on the Troll World quintet.

Let’s be honest, I need to get back to some drafting soon, but I’m going to be editing a lot until at least the end of the year.

And that’s just fine.

Be well, everyone.
