Phrased differently, was the Micro-fiction theme successful?
Yes, I think it was.
To recap, I made the personal demarcation line from Flash to Micro 250 words, although I’ve given thought to a character-based definition (1000 characters) that would still take in nearly all the pieces written in May to fit the 250-word definition I used.
And there were 36 of those for the month, ranging from 6 words (yes, I wrote a single Six Word Story, though I could as easily call it a Six Word Memoir in my case, but the reader will bring the stories that speaks to them to the words) all the way up to 245. I doubt that last one will stay under 250 when it eventually gets edited – my first draft is often fairly bare and the Make It Pretty draft usually increases length even if no other draft does – but it’s there right now.
Average length for the experiment was 135 words and the median was not too different at 133. Exactly seven became Drabbles on the first draft and probably three more will wind up there with edits, although one of those will have to come down from 110 words, which will be harder than you think.
And most of these tiny stories are pretty good, I think, even if it’s me saying that about my own work.
So yes, a success I think.
Be well, everyone.
