National Flash Fiction Day

Saturday was, apparently, National Flash Fiction Day, at least according to the website. Working definitions appear to be either a maximum of 300 or 500 words for flash fiction and a 100-word maximum for micro. (See, definitions vary. I like the more usual, but hardly universal, definition of 1000 words or less for flash, and I’ve been leaning towards 1000 characters or less for micro which is not what I used in May but if I repeat the theme next year, we’ll see.)

Did I celebrate National Flash Fiction Day? I did not. Saturday was busy. So was Sunday. But I may yet. I enjoy flash fiction (and micro, as might be obvious from the May theme), reading and writing. There might be time tonight to do a little of both.

I do find myself suddenly contemplating gathering all my flash- or micro-length fiction into a single volume. What would that look like with something in the vicinity of 150 stories I’ve written at 1000 words or less? Especially considering the time they were written in spans 2007 to present. Eighteen years.

Um, wow. I’ve been keeping track of my writing for eighteen years. That’s something else to contemplate.

Be well, everyone.
