Is that even possible?
Too many is probably a relative term. I accumulate t-shirts regularly. From events, academic pursuits, martial arts gatherings, random stops in stores where I don’t expect to find anything interesting but do, and periodic orders from geek shopping sites. About once a year for that last one and irregularly for the others.
So I have a lot of t-shirts. To the point where there’s one large drawer of my dresser stuffed full of them and usually they’re taking up some space in the athletic wear drawer right underneath.
But new t-shirts keep coming and that means I have to do a purge every so often. Also about once a year, I pull everything out at once and look for things that are either getting too worn (which is rare) or that I don’t wear very much anymore. I remove those from the pile and my youngest daughter removes a few of those from that pile into her sleepwear drawer. I imagine she then does a small purge of her own. The purge takes me down to one drawer full again.
The net result is generally that I can wear a different t-shirt every day for about a month if I want to. In the background are a few special occasion shirts, essentially things that are specific holiday-related. Everything else falls into four categories:
- Dad Jokes
- Geek/Science Humour
- Combination of 1 & 2
- Political Statement
Because I think that everything you wear says something about the wearer and I want to control that message when it comes to my clothing.
Notably, there are growing to be more of the last category than I would have expected a few years ago. I generally wear my political views openly, but that’s growing to be more than occasionally true in a literal sense.
But back to the point, do I have too many t-shirts? That’s a matter of opinion, but I think I try to stay around the border of just the right amount to avoid repetition.
Like I said, I think that everything you wear says something about the wearer. I’m a compulsive t-shirt reader so I’m always curious about the message folks are putting out there.
Be well, everyone.
