Yes, that’s two weeks, and I’ve waited this long to say anything about it here. Oh, if you have me on social media, I posted the obituary, but I’ve mostly been staying offline.
And it was that long before I noted here that my mother had passed away, although that came almost as a footnote, and I didn’t really talk about that properly until a year after the event. I probably won’t with Dad, either.
But fourteen days ago, at just about when this posts, my father died. I’m not interested in providing a lot of details at the moment, but I’m willing to say that I loved my dad. I still do. And I miss him terribly. We all thought he was coming home from the hospital, although it was going to take a while, but his body had other ideas.
For now, I’m trying to keep my life as normal as possible, acknowledging that I have all of the estate stuff to deal with that I didn’t have when Mom left us. It’s going to be a while before I can manage a new normal that feels okay.
The picture here is one I may have used before, from when he was substantially younger than I am now. It’s always the first way I picture him, happy and ready to take on the world. Now the world has to manage without him.
