Life, Writing, Weirdness

So it’s been quiet for a couple of weeks. That should mean I have a backlog of stuff, but it doesn’t. There are a couple of posts I wrote but didn’t manage to put up in late July, so those will come in the next few days after this and I’ll pick things up from there.

Why has it been quiet? Well, I went to an international academic conference for school the last week of July. I gave a talk (which was only mildly terrifying) which means the week before departure was mostly spent polishing the slides and talk in addition to all the rest of the work I’m normally supposed to get done. And the week after, we elected to take a vacation in that international destination, or in a couple of different cities in the same country, at least. Then there was the travelling back and recovery from jetlag and the cold that someone managed to give me at some point (I mostly didn’t let it slow me down trying to see things).

Most of the last three weeks haven’t seen a lot of keyboard writing, although there has been a little more longhand than usual, particularly on the plane in each direction. But I think I’m going to skip the July Writing Report. I may also skip the August one and just do an overall Q3 Writing Report in place of September’s. And expect my productivity to go way down in Q4 until after my thesis defense is in the past.

But there has been a lot of other stuff in the last three weeks, and I’m going to blog about at least some of it. The conference was in Exeter, which is a beautiful little city in southwest England though unfortunately afflicted with too many hills, we visited Stonehenge, and spent 5 full days in London. I could probably blog on the things we saw and did in England once a week and have enough to talk about for a year. But I also gave a public talk at the university’s observatory a week or two before we left, missed discussing International Zine Month, and have a bunch of other things I was thinking about writing about.
